Personal Vision Statement
The purpose of an organization’s vision statement is to give definition to a
desired future state. These statements should be no more than ten words that can be
easily memorized and repeated by everyone who is part of the organization or team.
Vision statements are a must for any organization or team, but what about an
individual?
The power of a personal vision statement is that it provides focus, promotes
faithfulness, and pinches failure. I created one for myself early in my leadership career.
It was simple, and brief, and it always provided me the ability to re-center and press on.
It became my personal GPS, which for me is an acronym that represents “Garnering
Personal Strength.”
Every leader should create a personal vision statement. It should be simple,
memorable, and easily recitable. It becomes your internal compass, your undying truth,
and your personal motivator. My statement is, “To live above mediocrity, lead
authentically, and love purposely.” This personal vision statement has been and
continues to be my “North Star.” What’s yours?
