Developer or Divider?
A leadership truth is this, “If you must build yourself up by tearing others down,
you have not earned the title of “Authentic Leader.” A more fitting title would be “Divisive
Leader.” While divisive leadership is not the same as toxic leadership, without a timely
course correction, it can quickly become toxic.”
Divisive Leaders are all about themselves and utilize “me first” methodologies to
“MACE” (manipulate and control everyone) those working within their span of leadership
influence. Phrases like, “It’s my way or the highway,” or “The difference between you
and me is I’m your boss,” or “see how much better I am to you than he or she is” or
“First, you are lucky to be working, and more importantly, working for me” are actual
words I’ve heard used by divisive leaders and are their obvious” tells.” Always listen to
phraseology to determine a leader’s internal truth.
Like an EF5 tornado, divisive leaders can cause massive amounts of damage,
forcing others to do damage control while wasting time and resources to help clean up
the mess left in their wake. Divisive leaders are walking disasters! Your challenge: do
not become a divisive leader!
Better it is to be a developer than a divider, Developers build up people, places,
or things; dividers break them down. Choose developing, not dividing. Developers
create strong teams; dividers crush great dreams. So, what do you choose?
