Self-Talk and Thanksgiving

The one voice you can never turn off is your own. If you do not believe that

statement, you should check your pulse. Any person who breaths, fully understands the

blessing or burden of self-talk. That internal voice is ever in dialogue with itself inside

our minds and hearts tattooing a positive or negative self-image.

The one thing I know for certain is this, people will live or die simply by the

internal dialogue they hold inside themselves. Self-talk will undergird or overwhelm a

person’s mental, physical, or emotional faculties. This talk instigates positive or negative

thinking that can facilitate or frustrate one’s reality.

Those who struggle with negative self-talk should consider cognitive behavior

therapy, especially if they maintain a position of leadership. One’s inability to practice

thanksgiving is a tell regarding their challenges with negative self-talk or narcissistic

tendencies. It would be wonderful to delve into this discussion in more detail, but time

and space will not permit. Suffice it to say self-talk and thanksgiving are inseparable.

What else is interesting is when thanksgiving wanes, bad attitudes gain. People

with bad attitudes are not thankful people. So, with that in mind, how can leaders utilize

their self-talk in order to practice thanksgiving both personally and professionally. I say,

“promote the GOAT!” No, I am not talking about being the “Greatest Of All Time,” I am

talking about practicing self-talk that says, “Gratitude Over Attitude, Today.” Authentic

leaders do just that every day and I trust you are doing the same.

Let me finish this note by saying I am so very humbled and thankful for you who

take the time to read these notes I send, and for promoting authentic leadership as a

standard of measure for quality leadership.
