These days everyone is looking for a convenient, easy, speedy, and practical application
that can facilitate a quick win. Sadly, leaders do the same. Most good things come
through hard work and perseverance, but for those leaders desiring a quick approach
that will help to change the leadership atmosphere and culture, let me recommend
practicing the “TWF” model. The TWF model is a three-practice approach that requires
being watchful, being involved, and being nice.
Be Watchful: Watchfulness is being on PAR with authentic leadership. Watchfulness
involves being purposeful, attentive, and ready. To be particularly purposeful is to be
intentional about knowing, growing, and going as a team; knowing what a group of
individuals working together looks and feels like, growing them to think and act like a
team, and going out with the resolve to operate and execute as a team primed for
success. To be actively attentive is to be acutely aware of any facts or assumptions that
may potentially disturb or disrupt team dynamics and relational success. Finally, to be
relentlessly ready is to be capable of responding, not reacting, to expected and
unexpected internal and external challenges without losing control of your leadership
faculties.
Be Involved: Involved leaders are most often inspiring leaders. For a leader to be “in the
middle of it” with their team, whatever the “it” may be, inspires their people. Phrases
like “’let’s roll up our sleeves and get to it” are inspiring words and even more inspiring
as actions. Involved leaders demonstrate a high level of sincerity through their actions.
Conversely, isolated leaders are most often insincere leaders.
Be Nice: Nice leaders are Polite, Affirming, Respectful, and Thankful for those who work
with them. They commit themselves daily to the practice of these characteristics
qualities in order to maintain strong relational circuits and keep a healthy workplace
environment. Are you doing your PART to WIN?
